The phone number QR code shows your number ready to call as soon as someone scans the code with a phone: just tap and confirm the call. Use it for customer service, emergencies and phone orders, without anyone typing (or mistyping) the number.

Quick summary
  • Works with mobile and landline numbers, always with the country code.
  • The call only starts when the person confirms.
  • Scanning the QR code needs no internet; the call uses the phone line.
  • Here at QR Code Free Forever, the number is stored in the QR code itself: it never expires and doesn't go through our server.

What is a phone number QR code for?

  • Emergency services: locksmith, tow truck, plumber and electrician, on the door or car sticker.
  • Phone orders: pizza places, pharmacies and water or grocery delivery, on a fridge magnet.
  • Apartment buildings: front desk, maintenance and the building manager, in the elevator or on the bulletin board.
  • Emergency contact: the guardian's phone on a school badge, a backpack or a pet collar tag.
  • Real estate: for-sale or for-rent signs.
  • Repair service: a label on the equipment, machine or air conditioner.

How to create the phone number QR code

  1. Enter the number with the country code, like +1 212 555 1234 (mobile or landline). Start with +, then the country code and the number.
  2. Customize. Any colors and shapes, with dark dots on a light background.
  3. Check the scan test. If the site warns that the QR code might fail, increase the contrast or simplify the shape.
  4. Download as PNG or SVG. PNG for screens and regular printing, SVG for stickers and signs made at a print shop.
  5. Test. Scan it with your phone and check the number before tapping call. If you want to go all the way, call and see if the right phone rings.

Tips for a QR code that works the first time

  • Number written next to it. Anyone who prefers to dial, or has a bad camera, can call just the same.
  • Say what the QR code does. “Point your camera to call” above the code clears up any doubt.
  • Right size. At least about 0.8 × 0.8 in (2 × 2 cm). On a car sticker or sign read from far away, the QR code's side should be about one tenth of the distance: scanned from 6.5 ft (2 m), about 8 in (20 cm).
  • Contrast and margin. Dark dots on a light background and a clear margin around the code.

Things to watch out for

A personal number on public material becomes a public number. For promotion, use the business line, and keep your personal mobile for the card you hand out in person.

Frequently asked questions

Does the phone call by itself when it scans the QR code?

No. The camera shows the number and the person taps to call. No call starts without them confirming.

Does it work with a landline?

Yes. Enter it with the country code, like +1 212 555 1234, and the call goes to the landline.

Can I use a number from another country?

Yes. Start with + and the country code, like +44 for the United Kingdom.

If I change my number, does the QR code follow?

No. The number is stored in the QR code, so you need to create a new one and reprint.
