TikTok QR Code: How to Bring People Walking By to Your Profile

How to make a QR code for your TikTok profile or a video, how it differs from the QR code the app generates, and ideas that work off the screen.

To make a TikTok QR code, copy the link to your profile (tiktok.com/@yourusername) or to a video, paste it into a link QR code generator and download the image. Anyone who scans it lands right on your profile, in the app or the browser. TikTok also has its own QR code, great for showing on the spot; for printing, one you generate outside the app gives you more control.

Quick summary
  • A TikTok QR code is a link QR code holding the profile address: tiktok.com/@ followed by the username.
  • The profile is the most durable destination; a specific video works for a campaign but can be deleted.
  • TikTok has its own QR code in the profile menu, under "My QR code", which works well for getting someone to follow you on the spot.
  • For printed material, a QR code generated outside the app accepts your brand color and comes out as an SVG for the print shop.

How to make a TikTok QR code, step by step

  1. Get your profile link. The safest way is to build it by hand: tiktok.com/@ followed by your username, exactly as it appears on your profile.
  2. Or get a video's link: on the video, tap Share, then Copy link.
  3. Paste it into the link QR code generator. If the video link comes with a question mark and a long string at the end, test it without that part: most of the time, the video opens the same way and the QR code is simpler.
  4. Download as PNG for screens and simple printing, or as SVG for the print shop.
  5. Test with one phone that has TikTok and one that doesn't.

The steps are the same as for the Instagram QR code; what changes is the address format. On TikTok, the @ is part of the link, while on Instagram it's left out.

TikTok's own QR code or one generated here?

According to TikTok's help center, the app shows your QR code under Profile, in the top menu, at the "My QR code" option. Right there is also a scanner for reading other people's codes. It's handy at a meetup, an event or a duet recording.

The last row matters for anyone making client material: the designer generates the QR code without needing anyone's password.

Profile or video: where should the QR code lead?

It depends on what you want people to do.

  • Want followers: profile. It's the destination that ages the least and shows all your videos at once.
  • Want to show a product in use: that product's video. It works well on a label, a shelf and packaging.
  • Want to teach something: the tutorial video, for people who bought to assemble, use or cook.
  • Want to send people to several places: a links page, with TikTok, shop and WhatsApp together.

A specific video carries a risk: if you delete it or make it private, people scanning the printed QR code hit an error. For material that stays out in the world a long time, like a storefront, a menu and packaging, the profile is the safe bet.

What about the link in the TikTok bio?

The QR code brings people to your profile. There, the next step is usually the bio link. According to TikTok's help center, the website field on a profile is available to accounts with 1,000 followers or more, or to registered business accounts (the rule may vary by country). Until the field shows up, a printed QR code with your shop's or your WhatsApp link does that job outside the app.

When the field unlocks, don't waste it on a single link. Use a links page with all your paths.

Where does a TikTok QR code work best?

Where the person is away from their phone, or looking at something else. On TikTok itself, the QR code is almost useless, because nobody points the camera at their own screen.

  • Counter and shopping bag: "See how we do it on TikTok" catches people who just bought.
  • Storefront: the video of the new collection for people walking by when the shop is closed.
  • Event, fair and concert: on stage or at the booth, for people who liked it and want to see more.
  • Big screen, livestream and presentation: leave the code up on screen long enough for everyone to point their phone.
  • Product: the recipe, the before and after or the unboxing, tied in through the label.

What to write near the QR code?

A short promise works better than "Follow us". "30-second tutorial", "See the before and after" and "Behind the scenes in the kitchen" give people a reason to take the phone out of their pocket. And write your @handle next to it: people who prefer to search by name can find you, and people about to scan can confirm the code really leads to your profile.

Here at QR Code Free Forever, the QR code for your TikTok is static: the link is stored in the code, doesn't go through our server and never stops working. Free, no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Can people without TikTok open the QR code?

Yes. The link opens in the phone's browser, which shows the profile or the video. To follow, like or comment, the person needs to sign in to an account.

Does the QR code TikTok generates expire?

The app's QR code leads to your profile and stays valid as long as the profile exists. Its weak point isn't the expiration, but the control: you don't choose the file, the color or the format for the print shop.

Can I use a TikTok QR code on a product I sell?

Yes. Commercial use of QR codes is allowed, on packaging, labels, bags or ads.

If I change my username, does the QR code still work?

No. The QR code stores the address with the old @handle; after the change, generate and print a new QR code.
